How do you go about removing the recent Windows update? Especially since the computer is stuck with that black screen.
I'll try to keep rebooting and hope it will get passed the black screen, but if not... not sure what to do. Appreciate any suggestions so I can then do those steps to solve this issue.
Thanks

You may want to try to boot up in safe mode and disable the service in msconfig there. F8 or Shift F8 while the laptop boots should bring up safe mode, however it may boot too fast for this. Below is a link of various methods.
Since Task Manager works I wonder if you can open a command prompt and restart to safe mode?
How long do you wait? My laptop was black screen for 10 minutes on average but something 15 or 20. I think I remember in my initial research someone stating they left a black screen with cursor up for 3 hours before the desktop came up. Maybe just let it sit for awhile plugged in and check on it?

THANK YOU!!! That litterally took seconds to do and it worked!!
I received my new Envy X360 15" a couple of days ago and once Windows loaded the cumulative update the start up screen went black with cursor.
I spent almost a whole day with HP Support restoring my laptop to factory settings only for the issue happen again when Windows update auto-reloaded.
Is there a way to disable this one update?
Apparently it isn't ready for prime time for the HP laptop.
Thanks.

You should be able to uninstall some updates. You would have to figure out what KB# update it is related to. Though I think the last one was a cumulative update so you may be out of luck.
I didn't take the time to hunt down the specific update from Microsoft to uninstall the update. I usually try not to do that because usually they are cumulative and it may have knock on effects from other updates.
My laptop boots pretty quick now as I would expect any PC with an SSD drive. I probably wont play around with re-enabling App Readiness until I hear there is a fix or the laptop stops loading windows quickly and I feel there enough time has past that Microsoft may have fixed it to try App Readiness again.

Hi Spacemanlou,
I was able to uninstall specific Windows updates.
For me the latest cumulative update was the one that appeared to cause my screen to go black.
So you were able to resove the black screen problem by just unabling App Rediness, but not having to delete the Windows update?

Once the desktop is up. (I had to wait 10 minutes or so)
In the search field next to the windows icon type MSCONFIG
Open MSCONFIG
Locate and select the Service Tab.
Find App Readiness in the list of services.
Uncheck App Readiness to disable service.
OK out of the screen and then restart to test setting.
