HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef2000 (771X1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all, Jents and ladies!
My laptop screen seems does not turn on after closing the lid (after sleep/ hibernation). Most likely, the display does not start working. All updates have been made, all Setups in Power management - OK.

My expectations:

You are closing the lid - PC goes to sleep. You are openeing the lid - screen turns on/PC wakes up.

Now : I close the lid - PC goes to sleep. I open the lid - Screen still dark.

Any thoughts ?

Warmest regards, Artze.

Hi @ArtzE1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Spectre x360 laptop's screen doesn't turn on after hibernation when you close and then open the lid, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Check Power Settings:

  • Make sure your laptop is not simply in a low-power state. Press the power button briefly to see if it wakes up.
  • Check your power settings in Windows:
    • Right-click on the battery icon in the taskbar.
    • Select "Power Options."
    • Ensure your power plan settings are configured correctly, and that the "When I close the lid" option is set to "Do nothing" or "Sleep."

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause display issues. Update your graphics drivers to the latest version from the HP website or using the Windows Device Manager.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for power management and display issues.

Disable and Re-enable Hibernation:

  • If hibernation is causing problems, you can try disabling it temporarily and then re-enabling it:
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Type powercfg -h off and press Enter to disable hibernation.
    • Restart your computer.
    • After the restart, open Command Prompt as an administrator again.
    • Type powercfg -h on and press Enter to re-enable hibernation.
    • Restart your computer again and check if the issue is resolved.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Sometimes, third-party software or drivers can interfere with hibernation and wake processes. Try disabling or uninstalling recently installed software to see if the issue is resolved.

BIOS/UEFI Update:

  • Check if there is a BIOS or UEFI firmware update available for your laptop on the HP website. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve power management issues.

Hardware Check:

  • If none of the above solutions work, there could be a hardware issue.

Remember to back up your important data before making any significant changes to your system settings or performing updates, as a precaution.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
