HP Spectre x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15-eb1043dx

Hello!

I’ve been trying to fix an HP Spectre x360 model 15-eb1043dx that has not been booting up.

When running a diagnostic, only a battery calibration is required. I tried to do it, but it didn’t solve the calibration. No other errors were found.

When hitting F11 for a system recovery, it get stuck on a Please Wait loop and then runs into an driver watchdog error, saying the device needs to restart.

I really need these files to be saved, so I’m hoping not to need to reinstall/override any files or install a new system.

Thank you so much!!

Hi @ambo5119,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand how important the files on your HP Spectre x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15-eb1043dx are, especially since you want to avoid reinstalling Windows or losing your existing data.

Before attempting System Recovery or making any changes to the operating system, I’d like to first determine whether we’re dealing with a hardware issue or a Windows/boot-related issue. The fact that the HP hardware diagnostics did not report another failure is encouraging, but we should verify this with the full hardware diagnostics.

Please run the HP F2 Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn the laptop completely off.
  2. Turn it on and repeatedly press F2 until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI screen opens.
  3. Run the available System Tests / Extensive Test, if offered.
  4. Please also run the Battery Test and let it complete.

The F2 hardware diagnostics are important here because they can help us establish whether the boot failure is being caused by a hardware component or whether we should focus on the Windows recovery/boot environment.

Please do not reinstall Windows, perform a factory reset, or use System Recovery again for now, since you have important files that need to be preserved.

Once the tests finish, please share the exact results shown on the screen, including any Failure ID, error code, component name, or test status. A photo of the diagnostic results is also fine.

Once we have those results, we can determine whether the issue is hardware-related or proceed with the appropriate boot/recovery troubleshooting while keeping your files in mind.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
