Reinstall Windows 8.1?
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've been on computers since BBS's and this is a first. A friend asked me to look at her Stream 11, and it wouldn't boot had blue screen at HP logo, w/ USB and win10 I proceed to bypass and to just eipe the whole drive was my intent, she said it was fine to start fresh. Now I cannot, format, the internal 32gb drive is only showing as RAW, the partition a cone back as before when deleted, cleaned or wiped. And it's saysin diskpart that it completes format a d cinversio, it goes right back, DISM.exe I get error 87, I forget the drive error I get, end I  57 but it's 12 digits believe, chkdsk, diskpart, aomei, minitool etc don't work. When I downloaded a copy of windows 8.1 to try to reinstall that is the only difference. It says it doesn't ha e the necessary drivers for the hard disc, and I can't find any other drivers for it here on the website, so I'm asking, if can get the original original drivers outta the factory to help it. It recognizes USB fine, it recognizes the internal drive, just no boot disk etc. Plz help and thank you. Maybe I'm just sleepy beating my head on this obe, but in stuck and my head feels like Chowder. Thanks everyone.. In Advance 🙂

Hi @MediaAmbient910,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering a frustrating situation with your friend's HP Stream 11. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check Hard Drive Health: Sometimes, a failing hard drive can cause issues like this. You can use a diagnostic tool like CrystalDiskInfo or HD Tune to check the health of the hard drive. If it's failing, you'll need to replace it.
  • Update BIOS: Ensure that the BIOS on the HP Stream 11 is up to date. Sometimes, outdated BIOS versions can cause compatibility issues with newer operating systems.
  • Secure Boot/UEFI Settings: Check the Secure Boot and UEFI settings in the BIOS. Sometimes, changing these settings can resolve boot issues with Windows installations.
  • Use HP Recovery Manager: If the HP Stream 11 came with Windows pre-installed, it might have a recovery partition. You can try accessing HP Recovery Manager by pressing the appropriate key during boot (usually F11 or F12) and then following the on-screen instructions to perform a factory reset.
  • Recreate Bootable USB: Make sure that the Windows installation media you're using is properly created. You can use the official Media Creation Tool from Microsoft to create a bootable USB drive with the latest version of Windows 10.
  • Injecting Drivers: If the Windows installation is failing due to missing drivers, you can try injecting the necessary drivers into the installation media. You'll need to download the drivers from the HP website and use a tool like DISM to inject them into the Windows image.
  • Try Different Installation Media: If you're having trouble with Windows 10, you can try installing a different version of Windows, such as Windows 8.1, as you mentioned. Make sure to download the appropriate installation media and try installing it.

Remember to back up any important data before attempting any troubleshooting steps that involve formatting or reinstalling the operating system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for taking time to reach out! I've done most of what you have said which is why I feel stuck, though I'll check those programs you mentioned as I have not been able to check drive integrity.  This is a eMMC or SD card drive, just the SD is on board as opposed to being in a slot, not dissimilar to a Chromebook but had win8.1 preinstalled instead of chrome OS. The big headache is every time I try and partition clean or format or wipe, the old partitions pop back as if nothing happened except now they identify as raw. I haven't been able to access the recovery partition one way or the other and I've tried both 8 1 and 10with 8.1 it asks for drivers and I did copy all the drivers I could find from hp and put them in a folder on the USB boot/install drive. But the computer didn't recognize it. I need like the driver that was used during the original install not the update further down the line. Whatever the name of the chip is, how I can find out which one, track down the manufacturer and get the device driver is the only way I think. It only ever really responds when I try 8.1 and need driver:) I want to thank you again for the suggestions and I'll download those other apps and check the drive. But if you could guide me to where I can look up the original drivers for it. Like factory reinstall, ID be super pleased. It's kinda a mission of must figure it out.... at least by this point lol thanks again
