Default string.png

I have updated my BIOS etc. Don't know what this means or what else to do. It shows up every time I restart my computer. And when I run diagnostic it just restarts my pc.

Hi @LegoChest,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the screenshot. It explains everything clearly. The “Default string” entries for Serial number and Product number mean your HP system board information was not programmed correctly after a motherboard replacement or BIOS update. This is why HP System Information cannot identify your PC and why diagnostics restart without running.

Why This Happens

  • HP motherboards store DMI data (Serial Number, Product Number, Feature Byte).
  • If the board was replaced or the BIOS was reset, these values can become blank or default.
  • Without correct DMI info, HP tools and updates may fail.

HP Official Fix

Unfortunately, this cannot be fixed through normal BIOS settings because HP locks advanced menus. You need to reprogram the system board information using HP’s official tool.

Take care and have an amazing day!
