My victus 15 (CPU: Intel core i5-12450H, GPU: RTX 3050 4gb, MEMORY: 16GB DDR4, SSD: 512GB) reboots randomly when idle. At first, the issue was subtle, but now, it happens when I am browsing the internet or running vscode. The issue does not happen when I am playing games or performing heavy tasks like compiling stuff. So far, I have tried to boot arch from my usb and the reboot occurs at that time too (almost immediately or after a short delay), so it doesn't seem like a windows only issue. The issue started happening around the time when I updated my BIOS from F.28 rev A to F.32 rev A. My current BIOS is F.33 rev A and it still hasn't fixed the issue. I have also found Event 41 from Kernel-Power which says "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
On top of that, the reboot issue does not happen on arch when I pass in intel_idle.max_cstate=1. So far, I have diagnosed and tried to reset the bios and clear the TPM among other things and it still hasn't fixed my issue.

Hi @AbinRaj,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP Victus 15 is rebooting unexpectedly when idle, even outside Windows, especially after a BIOS update. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.
Reset BIOS to default settings
Restart the notebook and press F10 to enter BIOS.
Press F9 to load default settings, then F10 to save and restart.
Adjust power-management settings
In Windows, open Control Panel → Power Options and select High Performance.
Set Minimum processor state to about 5–10% to reduce deep idle transitions.
Update chipset and power-management drivers
Download and install the latest Intel chipset, Intel Management Engine, and thermal/power drivers from the HP driver page for your model.
These drivers control CPU idle-state behavior and system power stability.
Run HP hardware diagnostics
Turn the notebook off, then power it on and tap F2.
Run System Tests, especially Memory and Processor tests, to confirm hardware stability.
Test system behavior on AC power only
If possible, run the notebook connected to the power adapter and observe whether the issue occurs while idle.
Power-delivery inconsistencies can sometimes trigger unexpected restarts.
Check BIOS version behavior
If the issue started after a BIOS update, confirm the current BIOS version in BIOS Setup.
Firmware changes can affect CPU idle-state power management and cause restart behavior during low activity.
I hope this helps.

I have tried resetting my bios. I have also tried performing hardware diagnostic by pressing F2 during boot. I have also tried doing it from hp support app, but it says that my pc is fine. Also, as you have mentioned, setting power plan to high performance seems to fix the issue. Also, this issue started appearing after I updated my bios from F.28 Rev to F.32 rev. A (currently in F.33 rev A, and the issue is still there).

Hi @AbinRaj,
Thank you for the response.
Let’s go through a few checks.
Step 1: Disable processor power-saving states in Windows
Open Control Panel > Power Options.
Select Change plan settings for your active plan.
Click Change advanced power settings.
Expand processor power management.
Set the minimum processor state to 10% and the system cooling policy to Active.
Apply the changes and restart the notebook.
Step 2: Disable Modern Standby/deep idle behavior
Restart the notebook and press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
Open Advanced or Power Management settings if available.
Disable Modern Standby or similar low-power idle options.
Save changes and restart.
Note: This aligns with the behavior you observed when limiting CPU idle states in Linux.
Step 3: Install Intel power-management components
Download and install the latest Intel Chipset driver for the Victus 15.
Install Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI).
Restart the notebook after installation.
Step 4: Roll back BIOS (if available)
Restart the notebook and press F10 to enter BIOS.
Check for BIOS rollback or previous BIOS recovery options.
If available, restore BIOS version F.28.
Restart the system.
CAUTION: Do not interrupt the BIOS rollback process once started.
Step 5: Test idle stability
Leave the system idle for several minutes after restart.
Confirm whether unexpected restarts stop occurring.
Test both on battery and AC power.
I hope this helps.

1. I tried disabling power saving states by putting minimum processor state to 10% and then to 15%. Reboot still happens.
2. I tried to look for that option in bios, but can't find that, or anything similar. The closest I was able to find were "S3/S4/S6 Wake from LAN (or something similar)" and "Adaptive battery optimizer. I tried toggling both and the reboot still happens.
3. I have installed intel power-management components from HP's support site.
4. Can't find the option to rollback bios. I downloaded F.28 and the installer says I can't downgrade.
However, it is highly stable when doing extensive tasks. I tried running cyberpunk and the reboot does not happen. But one time, when I closed the lid of the laptop after paysing the game, after a while, it rebooted.
