I tried this between 20 and 30 times with each version of the BIOS Recovery files with no result. It takes about 10 seconds or so every single time before the light on the CAPS Lock key starts blinking.

It doesn't sound like there are any other recovery steps available.

So how long does it usually take for HP to step in and admit they broke my computer, and then set an appointment for me to take my computer to a service center where they will pay to have it fixed?

Well, I guess this is the end. I want to thank everyone who tried to help me. It is much appreciated. It is too bad we couldn't get it back up and running.

I used to work for HP and have bought numerous computers and printers for myself, for family members and for friends. This is probably the best laptop I've ever owned. It worked great and I was very happy with it. I know machines don't last forever but i saw no reason for this to die on its own any time soon.

Which is why I'm very disappointed with HP. Even though it was out of warranty they sent me a BIOS update through the Support Assistant that ended up breaking the computer. And because it is out of warranty I can't actually speak to anyone from HP Support without paying for the privilege. AND because it is out of warranty they probably wouldn't do anything to help me anyway.

By the way, I am not the first person this has happened to. This has been going on for years based on what I have read out in the community. You would think someone would figure out how to update the BIOS without breaking their computers by now.

So I'm now without a computer because HP broke it. Thanks HP.

Once I can afford it I will consider getting a DELL or a Lenovo or any other brand not named HP. I'll be putting the word out to my friends and family to NEVER upgrade their BIOS and if they do and their computer is out of warranty then just cut their losses and go buy any other brand of computer besides HP.

I also received a BIOS update through the HP assistant which then caused the laptop to stop operating (would not Boot up)

WHY ....

Why does HP do this

I now have to pay someone over $200 to get my personal files off the HARD Drive ...and now this $700 Laptop is garbage

I know a big company like HP doesnt care about one customer .... but they just LOST this one

They should be ashamed of themselves for putting out an update that may or may not work

SIGH
