Hi @FinalFantasyFan,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop flashed "locking" and then shut down, and now it won't turn back on, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Force a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the laptop from any power source and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try turning it on.

2. Check Power Supply:

  • Ensure that the power adapter is working properly. If you have access to another compatible adapter, try using it.
  • Check for any LED indicators on the power adapter or laptop.

3. Remove External Devices:

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, printers, etc.) and try powering on the laptop again.

4. Boot into Safe Mode:

  • If the laptop starts but doesn’t fully boot, try to access Safe Mode:
    • Power on the laptop and repeatedly press F8 or Shift + F8.
    • If you access the recovery menu, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings, and choose Safe Mode.

5. Check for Display Issues:

  • If the laptop powers on but there’s no display, try connecting it to an external monitor to see if it displays anything.

6. Reset BIOS Settings:

  • If you can access the BIOS (by pressing F10 during startup), you can try resetting the BIOS to default settings.

7. Remove and Reinstall RAM:

  • If you're comfortable doing so, power off the laptop, remove the RAM sticks, and reseat them. Make sure they are properly installed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
