My father's HP laptop no longer boots up. It is relatively new and was barely used. I took it once at school for a presentation and since then, it was never used. Today, when he tried to open it, it didn't boot up at all. I will mention there was no dropping or hindering with the internal components. I checked the exterior for external damage, and none is to be seen. I googled it up. The results recommended removing the battery, plugging it in without it. No result. Next, I removed the battery, waited a while, then plugged it in again. No result.

I tried changing the outlet, thinking it might be faulty. Still, no result. Now, my only two suspicions are:

  1. The power source at the school. I don't trust it that much, but it is not in my knowledge that it destroys laptops. Could it be the cause? Others use the school power supply and have no issues at all.

  2. The OS. I suspect there might be something wrong with it causing it to not boot up. But the fans aren't working either, so I suppose it might not be it? The battery seems fine, no signs of damage. It is dusty, i have to say, but the contacts are not corroded or apparently damaged in any way. My third suspicion would be the power cable, I tried adjusting the connections, making sure they fit snuggly (without forcing, of course). Does someone have any idea what might go wrong? Again, laptop was barely used throughout its lifetime, and it is new. Think it was bought 1 or 2 years ago
