Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have today replaced my failed hp laptop hard drive with a new SSD upgrade. I used the microsoft media creation tool to create bootable USB. Turned off Secureboot in UEFI and successfully installed clean copy of windows 10. However after the first reboot during windows setup the system fails to boot. It reports an error telling me to install an OS on my hard drive. The OS is installed on the hard drive. I even re done it just in case.

The only way i can get the OS to boot is to choose "Boot from EFI file" from the boot menu options. Why is it doing this now. Im giving the laptop to a friend and he is not great with computers so its not ideal for him to press F9 for the boot menu each time to access manual boot from EFI file.. Turning secure boot back on does not fix the issue.

Also i noticed there is a 16gb M.2 drive plugged into the motherboard. it's never shown up in windows  in the past as a drive letter. I assumed it was dead and removed it. Has this 16gb M.2 drive got anything to do with the boot.

Originally my windows was installed on the 1tb mechanical drive before it failed, so i dont know what purpose the M.2 drive is serving

Any advise appreciated

Paul
