Hi @TAC72,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Notebook is experiencing some issues after being dropped. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.
Safe Mode:
- Restart your laptop and boot into Safe Mode. This will load a minimal set of drivers and may help you identify if the issue is related to a specific driver or software.
- To boot into Safe Mode, restart your laptop and press the F8 key repeatedly until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears. From there, select Safe Mode and see if the laptop boots successfully.
System Restore:
- If you can access Safe Mode, try performing a system restore to a point before the laptop was dropped. This will revert your system files and settings to an earlier state.
- To perform a system restore, type "System Restore" in the Windows search bar, select it, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Windows Repair/Recovery:
- If you have a Windows installation or recovery disk, you can use it to repair or reinstall the operating system.
- Insert the Windows installation or recovery disk and restart the laptop. Press the necessary key (usually F2, F10, or Esc) to access the boot menu and select the disk. Follow the on-screen instructions for repair or reinstall options.
Check for Loose Components:
- Since the laptop was dropped, there might be loose connections. Ensure that the RAM, hard drive, and other internal components are securely in place.
Run CHKDSK:
- Boot from a Windows installation or recovery disk, open the Command Prompt, and run the CHKDSK command to check and repair disk errors.
Update Drivers:
- In Safe Mode, update your graphics, chipset, and other essential drivers. Outdated or corrupted drivers could be causing the issue.
Remember to back up important data if possible before attempting any repairs or reinstallations.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
