I literally just bought this HP OmniBook flip laptop last month. AMD Ryzen. 16 inches.

Well yesterday the memory training screen popped up when turning it on and I hit esc to postpone. Today it did the same thing but now it's frozen on that screen and wont turn kff. No buttons work at all. The power button doesnt work I held it down tl up to 60 seconds and it wont turn off.

How in the world do I get it to shut off and make this go away? I literally just bought this laptop last month and its already giving me issues.

Hi @Saralovesremi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can absolutely understand how stressful this is. You bought a brand‑new HP OmniBook Flip, and suddenly it’s frozen on a memory training screen, won’t respond to Enter, Esc, Ctrl+Alt+Del, or even a 60‑second power hold. You’re doing everything right; the laptop is the one misbehaving.

STEP 1: Force Shutdown (the correct HP method)

HP support recommends:

✔ Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds → even if it seems like nothing’s happening, KEEP holding it.

HP specifically notes that if it doesn’t respond at first, hold longer.

If the system still won't shut off:

STEP 2: Disconnect All Power

  1. Unplug the AC adapter
  2. Leave it unplugged for 30–60 seconds
  3. If your model has no removable battery (most OmniBooks don’t), just wait for the internal battery to fully discharge for a moment
  4. Try pressing the power button again after 1 minute

HP calls this a full power drain/reset, and it often clears the hang.

STEP 3: Look for the Hidden Reset / Pin‑hole (IMPORTANT)

Some OmniBook Flip units include a pinhole reset, usually on:

  • The bottom panel
  • Near the USB‑C ports
  • Near ventilation cutouts

HP recommends using a paperclip:

✔ Press and hold the pinhole reset for 10–15 seconds,

Then reconnect the power and turn the machine on.

If you see a small hole labelled Reset, RTS, or with a tiny circular icon, that’s it.

STEP 4: After It Powers On

If you manage to get it to restart:

✔ Immediately tap Esc or F10 repeatedly

to try to enter the BIOS.

Inside BIOS:

  • Choose Load Defaults / Restore Factory Defaults
  • Save and exit

This clears the corrupted memory‑training state.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
