Hi @Bowser8,
Thanks for reaching out! A very Good Day to you. 🙂 Hope you are doing well. 🙂 I understand that you have issues with. I’ll be glad to assist you with this.:)
You’ve done an excellent job on diagnosing the issue from your end. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 It is always a privilege to work with tech-savvy and technically competent customers like you. 🙂 We greatly value your relationship with HP. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂.
First off, it looks like a hardware issue with the computer. For better clarity, I would require more information regarding this.
- Did it happen after a power outage or a power surge?
- Was the unit plugged into the wall outlet when this happened?
- Did it stop working after a bios update?
- Does the caps lock light blink in a sequence?
Please perform a hard reset from his link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768
Then try to fire up the computer. If this does not work then try a bios roll back from this link:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833
There is a video associated with it that shows you how it is done. Please perform the key combination and also perform the one given by flashing it with a USB stick.
If this does not do the trick for you please try to perform the steps from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-13-x2-PC/6936232/model/7200388/document/c03515402/
Finally, if nothing works I request you to contact HP phone support to get the unit replaced or serviced by visiting this link: http://hp.com/contacthp
Please select the country and type the product# of the unit and follow the on-screen instructions.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty will take care of repairs and replacements

Unfortunately, none of these suggestions resulted in fixing the issue.
Answering your questions:
- To our knowledge, this didn't happen due to a power outage or surge. The laptop did, however, start shutting down on its' own and, after doing this a few times, ended up in the current "dead" state.
- Not sure if the computer was plugged in directly during any of this, but it is possible.
- No bios update that we are aware of.
- Caps lock light is never on.
This laptop / tablet hybrid doen't have a standard power button, nor does it have a power on light.
Interesting items noticed:
- When pressing the "tablet" power button, nothing happens (no matter how long held).
- When releasing the "tablet" power button (after above), a faint click and hum can be heard. I am assuming this is the storage drive turning on.
- Upon pressing the "tablet" power button again (after above two steps), it sounds like the storage drive is turning off.
Logo key and B or V (steps from some of the links you provided) does nothing except for items stated above (when pressing the power button).
BIOS update attempts, even with USB does nothing, except items mentioned above (when pressing the power button).
Any additional insights appreciated.
FYI - the P/N, S/N and Model # information is printed really small on the bottom of the tablet portion of the laptop, viewable when it is removed from the keyboard. Your guides on this should be changed to include this type of model.
Thanks
