I switched off my HP250 G7 and the next day when I went to use it I got a blue screen with message “Boot device not found etc”.  Using my phone I checked for various fixes online, F10 on boot up to get into the bios etc but made no difference. One suggestion was to reseat the hard disk. So took the cover off only to find there is NO hard disk where there should be one!  I’m totally confused. Is the hard disk underneath the battery?  Please help.

You have an NVME SSD drive

Have you run diagnostics?
Tap the ESC key after powering on and press F2 to run diagnostics.
Do not allow any updates if disk or memory fail, especially a BIOS update.

if you do not pass disk diagnostics then you need to replace the drive

Otherwise you might be able to recovery (repair) it

----------

try startup repair first and if that does not work then try a restore point recovery

You can try to repair windows 10/11 by selecting a windows restore point from before the time the problem occurred.

This video described how to use a restore point
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sixGAIiPTlE

You need to boot in safe mode to be able to do the restore
This explains how to boot into safe mode
https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/ish_5000477-5000532-16

Note that item 4 is the restore so you can select restore from there

To do a startup repair:
Skip down to 'Enter safe mode from outside windows'
When you get to advanced options select 'Startup Repair'
If the startup repair fails then try the restore point.

Let me know if you need more help or if startup repair fails. It would be helpful to have your Product ID

Please provide the Product ID  including the characters after the # symbol. This code may be needed to find cloud recovery files.

Thank you BeemerBiker for your prompt and comprehensive reply . I rebooted the laptop hitting the esc/F2 keys.  It was at least 20 minutes before the diagnostic’s screen appeared.  I tried running the Hard drive check and got a No hard drive installed response. Also tried the Storage tests and got the same response.  I assume something has happened to the SSD drive. Is there any way of recovering this?
The product number is 213V6ES#ABU.

Replace the SSD and do a cloud restore

Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
You can restore your system using a 32gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.

according to Crucial the 250 G7 can use NVME M.2

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp-compaq/hp-250-g7-(intel-core-i7--i5--i3)

If your system is Generation 3 PCIe you can use a Gen4 ssd.
It will work, but wont run at Gen4 speed. The Gen3 is usually cheaper

Typical Gen3 M.2
