Necesito Ayuda Por Favor

Hello community, I’m reaching out because I’ve tried everything within my power but haven't managed to solve my problem. Perhaps someone here has faced the same issue and found a solution!

I have an HP ENVY 15 Q002LA.
The screen was damaged by a severe drop, so I completely removed it from the motherboard. In short, I’m left with just the base unit (the "CPU" part) working with an external monitor via an HDMI cable.

The unit is running well, but I want to make a couple of changes now: enable virtualization and install a second hard drive. To do this, I need to access the BIOS. The problem is that the BIOS screen doesn't show up; I only get a display signal once Windows has already started. The GPU still detects the other screen even though it was disconnected from the motherboard, and I’ve tried every suggestion I could find online.

These suggestions usually involve opening the BIOS and using the Fn + F4 keys to switch displays, but that doesn't work because there is no HDMI output unless Windows boots up. I even uninstalled the internal display drivers to see if that would help, but nothing worked—nor did any of the other online tips. I just can't get an HDMI signal before Windows starts so that I can access the BIOS.

If anyone has any knowledge about this, please help. I really need assistance.

Hi @WALTONSALAS,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for providing such a detailed explanation of your setup. We understand the situation. Since the internal display assembly has been physically disconnected from the motherboard, the behavior you're seeing is expected on many HP notebooks of this generation.

On the HP ENVY 15-q002la, the BIOS/UEFI and HP Startup Menu are designed to initialize the internal display first. In many cases, the HDMI output does not become active until the graphics driver loads during the Windows startup process. As a result, an external monitor may remain blank while the system is in POST or BIOS, even though it works normally once Windows starts.

Because of this hardware design, there is unfortunately no BIOS setting or keyboard shortcut that can force the BIOS to output to the external HDMI display before Windows loads when the internal panel is disconnected.

Since you need to:

  • Enable virtualization in the BIOS.
  • Install and configure a second storage drive.

We recommend having the notebook inspected by an HP Authorized Service Center. They can temporarily connect a compatible internal display or use the appropriate service equipment to access the BIOS and make the required configuration changes safely.
