Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have a laptop I bought 1 year and a half ago. I cannot start the computer, it shows a black screen with the Hard Disk 2 error (3F2). I tried tu run a System Diagnosis, the quick check, and it showed "passed", but after that I was brought back to the same screen and the same error. I tried to run again the test but now the message I see is "No hard drive installed. Please check that the power and data cables are connected properly". Everything is connected properly, so I don´t know what to do. Also tried restarting the laptop, but nothing.

Thanks in advance,

Hi, @Miguel_H

Let's run a hard drive test

Use the following steps to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) to the main menu.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.
  3. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.
  4. In the main menu, click component test.
  5. Then click on a hard drive test.
  6. Select the Quick Test to perform a quick check of the hardware.
  7. Select the Extensive Test to perform a full check of the hardware. This test might take 2 or more hours to complete.
  8. While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for the component is shown on the screen.
  9. If the component passed, exit from that screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the information,

Thanks for your assistance, but as I tried to explain in my first post, when I run the quick test the system tells me “No hard drive installed. Please check that the power and data cables are connected properly”

So I do access the UEFI screen but can not run any test.

Hi, @Miguel_H okay I see. At this point see if you can contact HP Support. Also, if your warranty is still valid, take your PC for repairs as well.

Ok, thanks. The laptop is not in warranty. I bought it brand new one year and 4 months ago. It looks like HP is getting better with its Planned Obsolescence program.

Kind regards and thanks again,

My pleasure.
