Pavilion 15-p237nr
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and older

Hello,

I have a Pavilion 15-p237nr and every time I try to power on, a Hard disk error message pops up on a black screen. I’ve tried several different methods that I found online to get my laptop working again but they were unsuccessful. Was told to go into the Boot device settings and switch over to the Legacy server and this also didn’t work. I’m assuming it may be because my hard drive is outdated (had this product since Christmas 2014). Not sure what else to do at this point and with this pandemic going on, it’s nearly impossible to find any open IT places to take it to for repairs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

@techwizard1 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are getting a boot device not found message.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

Please perform the below steps and check.

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.

3) Remove the Battery. ( not for Built-in Battery computer )

4) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.

5) Plug-in the Adapter and put the Battery back into the computer if it's a (removable battery)

6) Try to turn on the computer and check, If the issue persists continue next step

Also, perform the hard drive test and let us know the result.

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F2 once.

4) Go to Component test.

5) From the list, run the Hard Drive (extensive) test.
