Hi, my son's laptop has been giving the message of imminent failure he has been clicking enter to skip, now it won't go passed that message screen, it just turns off and goes back to the same message page. I know I should have sought help sooner but he said it worked fine when he clicked enter so I hadn't got round to looking into fixing it. It's around 5 years old is it worth trying to fix it it not? Thank you for any help offered. 😊

You're very welcome.
Yes, you will need another Windows PC to make the W10 installation media.
OK...you have a HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p178na PC.
Here is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

Since your notebook originally came with W8.1 and you upgraded to W10, when you get to the part of the W10 installation where you are asked to enter a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option.
After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

You're very welcome.
What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?
Use this guide to find that information...please do not post the serial number.

You can reinstall W10 for free by making bootable installation media using the media creation tool from the link below.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Make the 64 bit installation media,
If I know the product number or model number of your PC, I can give you the link to the service manual, and if your notebook did not originally come with W10, you have to do a couple of things when you go to install it.
