HP Pavilion - 15z-cd000 CTO

Hard Drive is done.  The HP Test doesn't even recognize that Hard Drive is installed.

Have no back up disk/USB etc.  When I put in new Hard Drive how do I get Windows 10 back into system?

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

HP Pavilion 15 Laptop PC (model numbers 15-cd001 through 15-cd099) Maintenance and Service GuideIMPO...

If your notebook came with a 2.5" mechanical hard drive, and not a M.2 solid state drive, you may want to replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive.

You can use the HP cloud recovery tool on another Windows PC running Windows 7 64 bit or newer and a 32 GB USB flash drive to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

Thank you .  Can you suggest a good place to order the solid state drive?

You're very welcome.

I recommend Amazon, and I recommend that you look into one of these 3 brands...Buy one in a storage capacity that meets your storage needs and budget.

Crucial MX 500 2.5" SSD, Western Digital Blue 2.5" SSD or a PNY CS900 2.5" SSD.

The WD Blue would have the best performance of the 3, but it also costs more right now.

Before you order a drive, if you are not sure if your notebook came with a M.2 SATA SSD or a 2.5" mechanical hard drive, please post the product number of your notebook, so I can look it up in the HP Partsurfer website or you can do it yourself.

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, the parts lists shows multiple drives could have been installed--both 2.5" and M.2.

But if you remember how much storage capacity the hard drive had, if it was 1 TB or more, then your notebook has a 2.5" mechanical hard drive.

It's 1TB so I'll go with the 2.5"

Thanks again for your insight and help.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Hi Again.  One more thing.  Are internal connections standard?  I pulled out the hard drive so will the replacement have the same plug in?   This is what I found on Amazon....would this fit?

Western Digital 1TB WD Blue 3D NAND Internal PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, 2.5"/7mm, Up to 560 MB/s - WDS100T2B0A

Thanks again

Hi:

Yes, it is a direct swap.

You will use the same hard drive connector and mounting hardware that the existing drive is using.
