Hard Drive Short DST Check: Failed

Failure ID: 9TU47D-7KAAJA-MFPWLJ-60XC03

Is it possible to recover my hard drive? Or am I out of luck? Would like to get an idea before trying to go to a place and spending $100+ figuring it out.

Also, I ran the diagnostic test a couple weeks ago when I first had issues and got a different Failure ID code. Not sure if it means something new is wrong, or if it's just indicative of the different days I ran the test-- old ID was 9TU47D-7KAAHU-MFPWLJ-60UB03.

Hi:

Both the codes generated this report.  I removed the serial number of your notebook.

You will need to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

You may want to consider replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

As far as data recovery...you can buy a SATA to USB cable.  Plug one end into the failed drive, and the other end into a working PC's USB port and see if you can read/copy the files from the failed drive to the PC.

Something like this...

Amazon.com: SATA to USB Cable, Benfei USB 3.0 to SATA III Hard Driver Adapter w/UASP Compatible for ...
