Hi guys, Lately my laptop will freeze, screen will turn blue and a black screen pops up saying error 3FO hard drive not installed. When I try to test the hard drive under that same screen it tells me that "no hard drive installed" please check that power and data cables are connected properly. However, if I press the F2 key and test my hard drive there it passes. I even did a total system check and it passes. I also googled this error and did what it said about pressing f10 going to the bios setting and changing the legacy support setting. I did all that. I even updated my bios and yet it still crashes and still gives me this error.
I am extremely frustrated and wanted to know if maybe my hard drive is just dead? but again that wouldnt make sense because it passes the extensive test under the f2 key.
please help me or if not at all unnecessary than can I possibly ship my laptop to have it checked?

Hi
MAKE BACKUPS AND RECOVERY MEDIA IMMEDIATELY
PLEASE POST ANY RESULTS.
First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.
Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat; Re-Connect the AC adapter.
NOW begin checking/testing/proving the Hardware is fit for purpose.
Power on your PC, press ESC (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).
AND/OR
HOW DO I USE DIAGNOSTICS?
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics is a Windows-based utility that allows you to run diagnostic tests to determine if the computer hardware is functioning properly. The tool runs within the Windows operating system in order to diagnose hardware failures. HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows comes pre-installed on new HP computers, but if not on yours, download here:-

From 2016 onwards there is a possible recovery option via the cloud...
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 7 & 10)
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06162205
OR
This First part only works when a valid Recovery Partition is enabled.
Turn off the computer.
Disconnect all connected devices and cables, Media Drives, USB drives, printers, & faxes.
Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware.
Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, or power cord.
WARNING - ONE WAY ONLY, WIPES ALL DATA - NON-RECOVERABLE
Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key, about once every second,
until the Choose an option screen is displayed, and then continue.
On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot, and work your way through the screens.
This may require another PC. Find and Download your .iso from…
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Expand/Extract/Burn the iso Image onto a DVD/USB as needed.
Microsoft’s Creator Tool will make the required DVD or USB.

If you ship it off then all your data could be compromised, I advise taking precautions.

Unfortunately,
This did not work. The laptop once again crashed. As I explained when I check the system under the F2 setting it passes the hard drive check, however when I get the black screen with error 3F0 and I try to check the hard drive there it says "hard drive not installed please check cables"
I dont understand how it passes the hard drive check in one location but when this error pops up it does not pass it or it doesnt find the hard drive.
I also did a hard reset and yet it still crashed and had the same errors.

Hi
So ship it off to a repair shop then.
Without a Model number I cannot be more specific than this...

There are hundreds of possibilities.

A long shot is........ make a USB from here and use that to attempt recovery,
if you are really desperate.

If in doubt please ask.
