Hello HP support,

I really need your help in solving my problem currently.

Base Storyline :

Before this I opened up the computer and removed my ram to do a bit of cleanup. And that I time I also doing some checks with each of my ram (which is 2GB DDR3 for each stick) and then I opened the hard disk component. I removed the hard disk and reinstall it. Then, when booting into windows, my windows keeps showing BSoD with error BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO. And I thought it was the ram problem. After keeping changing the ram with different slots, I started to think is it the hard disk problem. And I open the hard disk again and reinstall it again.

The problem is now that my system doesn’t detect the hard disk. It shows that “Please install a operating system into the hard disk”. And I press the ESC key and enter hard disk test and shows that no hard disk found. So, I would like to know if the hard disk were failling or cables or configuration.

P/s; I haven’t tried using windows recovery usb to check if the hard disk still available.

So, I was hoping you could help me with the hard disk and prevent it from losing data. There is a lot of data and I haven’t create a backup for the my documents partition.

Regrads, Danish

Dear HP Forums,

I have already fixed the problem with my hard drive. It was because the internal connection in the hard drive causing the board having trouble contacting with the motors. So, I followed this guide to actually clean the connectors and my hard drive were detected by the bios. So, thank you so much for the support! I really appreciate it. I'll link the video that I was talking about. I am going to mark this problem as solved!

If this were mine, I would focus on doing data recovery for now and worry about getting the laptop working later.

Your best bet for recovering data now is to do the following:
1) Remove the hard drive from the old PC
2) If you have a desktop PC with a spare hard drive connector, then connect the old drive to that -- both the power cable and the data cable. If you only have a notebook PC, then you will need to purchase a USB-to-Hard Driver adapter kit (like the one illustrated below)
USB-Drive-Adapter.jpg
3) Connect the old drive to a working PC,using that adapter if it is a laptop
4) Try to retrieve the files and folders you want to save from the old drive and copy them to the new PC.

If this does not work, then you need to do the following:
1) Download and install this utility on a working PC http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/story/recover_data_in_3_steps_with_minitool_power_data_recovery_free_...
2) Run the data recovery utility to see what can be retrieved from the old drive.

If that tool does not find what you need, an alternative is Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva

And, if that does not work well, the best tool out there is this one, but only the trial version is free http://www.file-recovery.com/

Okay, thank for the recommendation. But if the hard drive couldn’t work as expected, what options do I have now?
