HP Pavilion x360 - 14-cd0008na

Hello face recognition stopped working 3 days ago.  I ended up chatting and then Remote Access to Microsoft Tech ( they did not charge me a fee)  I spent over 5 hours with 2 chat sessions (I had to go to Dr appt).  Tech checked everything related to Device Manager, Camera Settings, System Privacy & Security.  Drivers were uninstalled/ reinstalled.   My laptop was even restored to the original configuration and then Windows II reinstalled. My camera works.  We tested it.  Works in Teams and Zoom.   Then I had to reinstall a whole bunch of apps (MS 365), Outlook email), Adobe,  Firefox (most of my latest bookmarks are gone)  Saved Passwords gone.   It has been a nightmare.  The MS Tech could not fix the problem Hello Facial Recognition doesn't work.   This is not something I did.   MS Windows or HP caused a SW conflict in my professional opinion (45 yrs as a HW SW design and development technical and program background).

Finally he gave up and said I will have to contact HP Tech Support.  So I did.  They want me to pay $99.99 for a one time fee to fix a problem I did not cause or is not a HW failure.  And they tried to sell me an annual contract.    I am livid.  What a way to treat HP customers.   I broke nothing, NO HW failed.  It is a SW programming issue caused by either HP or MS that they should be responsible to fix because someone didn't do enough regression testing during their Agile process.   DOES ANYONE have a FIX.   Other searches on the web offer nothing.

Hello Face is performed by the IR camera.  Looking at and expanding the software for window 10 (there is no 11)

I see the Realtek IR camera driver is available for windows 10 v1909.  This is dated Nov 29, 2019 and is 5 years old

You can try that 5 year old driver, maybe it will work

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp100001-100500/sp100321.exe

From Google's AI quote

To update the Realtek IR camera driver on Windows 11 through Microsoft, open your Device Manager, expand the Cameras section, right-click on your Realtek IR camera device, select Update driver, and then choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" to let Windows find and install the latest version available.

If that does not work then try one or more of these that Microsoft stores in the windows update.

Consider yourself lucky!!!

Some owners end up doing a factory restore of the original laptop software as the original Webcam driver cannot be found anywhere.

You might create a windows restore point so you can quickly go back should a problem show up in the future.
