Hello,
I own an HP OMEN Obelisk Desktop 875-1045m CTO (Product Number: 8Q059AV).
I recently brought my computer to a repair shop, and they installed a BIOS administrator password without our permission. I have tried contacting the shop by phone and text, but they have not responded.
I can still access Windows, but whenever I try to enter the BIOS, it immediately asks for an administrator password that I do not know. I recently reset Windows, but the BIOS password is still there.
My standard HP support coverage has expired, so I am looking for advice on how to resolve this issue.
Can HP help me remove or reset the BIOS password, or direct me to an authorized service center that can assist? I can provide proof of ownership if needed.
Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the HP Community forum!
I am very sorry to hear about your experience with the repair shop.
A Windows reset will not remove a BIOS administrator password because it is separate from the Windows installation.
Unfortunately, HP's published policy states that HP cannot reset a lost or forgotten BIOS password. According to HP's guidance, resolving this issue requires replacing the system board, which may involve substantial out-of-warranty costs.
For more information, please see HP's official -though very succinct documentation: HP PCs – Forgotten or lost BIOS password.
Since you believe the repair shop installed the password without your authorization, I recommend contacting the shop in writing and requesting that it remove the password it installed and restore your BIOS access. Keep copies of your invoice and all correspondence.
Please understand that the HP Support Community cannot provide instructions for bypassing or circumventing BIOS security protections. This restriction is set out in Rule 4d of the HP Community Rules of Participation.
You can contact HP Support to inquire about available service options for your particular product, but HP's published policy does not offer a BIOS password reset.
Since you believe the BIOS administrator password was installed without your authorization, you may wish to pursue the matter directly with the repair shop's management in writing. Preserve your work order, invoice and correspondence. If the shop does not respond, consider filing a complaint with your local consumer-protection agency or consulting a consumer-law attorney about possible remedies, including costs associated with a motherboard replacement.
Unfortunately, HP cannot be expected to resolve a dispute concerning actions taken by an independent repair shop.
Thank you for visiting the HP Community.
Kind Regards,
