Hey everyone,

Need help diagnosing a sudden failure on my HP Omen 16-wd0275ng.

What happened:

Laptop started randomly turning itself off for a second — screen went black, power button LED blinked, battery indicator looked normal.

I went into Safe Restart through BIOS (F11 menu) to run a diagnostic.

While in the BIOS menu, the power button blinked a few more times, then the laptop completely shut down.

Since then it’s dead: battery light stays solid red (not blinking), pressing power does nothing.

One time the fans spun for about a second, then silence again.

What I’ve tried:

Full power drain (held power button 45 s, unplugged everything)

BIOS/EC recovery (Win + B and Win + V methods)

Tried with and without charger, and different outlets

→ still totally unresponsive.

My guess:

This looks like BIOS or Embedded Controller (EC) corruption. When the firmware crashes during POST or update, the Omen can enter protection mode — it cuts power to prevent full BIOS brick. At that point the EC refuses to start or charge until the BIOS is reflashed with HP’s service tool.

Next steps I plan:

Leave it unplugged overnight to fully discharge.

Try Win + B/V recovery again tomorrow.

If still dead, contact HP for a BIOS reflash or mainboard replacement (seems to be a known Omen issue).

Anyone seen this exact pattern before or managed a DIY recovery?
