I am trying to help a friend in another state so I can't see the keyboard myself. I have tried downloading images of the keyboard

but I can't see the small text on the keys even when magnifying the image. It loses detail when I do that.

I have tried researching how to enter the BIOS. It appears to say press ESC and then F10. She is not seeing an F10 key if I understood her correctly. She tried pressing the Fn key and what she thought may be the F10 Key.

Can someone provide me with very detailed info on what to press in order to access the BIOS Setup. I need to change the boot sequence in order to boot from a DVD drive.

Any help would be appreciated. I can't stand to see a good PC go into the trash can.

TIA

Hi:

You do not need to press the F10 key to get access to the BIOS.

So, what you need to do in order to boot from a DVD drive is this...

You turn on the PC, and immediately start tapping the ESC key to get a menu of options.

Select the F10 BIOS setup option from the menu, and press the Enter key to get access to the BIOS.

You need to change some settings in the BIOS...enable legacy mode, and disable secure boot.

See this link for the complete instructions...

Then have the DVD in the drive, turn on or restart the PC, tap the ESC key to get the menu of options, and this time, select the F9 Boot Options, menu and press the Enter key.

Select the Legacy DVD drive from the list of bootable devices, and press the Enter key.

Watch the screen for the message to press any key to boot from DVD.

Press any key, and the PC should boot from the DVD.

My friend lives a thousand miles away so I can't see the keyboard. I searched for images and found a couple selling replacement keyboards. She does not see any thing on the keyboard saying this key is [F10]. When I looked at images I couldn't see it either but the images became grainy when I magnified them. which did not help. She pressed the [Fn] key along with most of the number keys if I understood her correctly.

Thank you for your reply.

You're very welcome.

As I posted the other day, your friend does not need to press any of the F keys, just the ESC key, and then select the F10 setup option or F9 boot options menu from the list.

That is the way they are labeled F10, F9.  She can use the down arrow/up arrow keys to select those items from the list.

That's the best I can do to explain it.
