Probook 4540s
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am shocked to find out at this late stage that the HP probook 4540s offers no option to boot from a USB stick.

When I do a cold boot, press ESC and enter the SETUP program, I press F9 and see that the only 3 choices are:

- DVD/CD ROM drive

- HDD drive

- Network

This is unthinkable.  I am using the Macrium Reflect (free version) for full image backups, as well as a full image recovery.  And this requires being able to boot from a USB stick.  I cannot believe this company does not have a USB boot option.

Would be highly grateful for any workable solution.

Many thanks.

RTan

There should be a setting in F10 BIOS setup to enable USB boot:

My sincere thanks.

I found it after pressing F10 followed by a series of menus, and the USB boot option was buried somewhere in this set of menus.  Although not important, it remains puzzling why they designed it this way.

Thankign you again for your kind assistance.

@RTX

You're very welcome. I think it was quite common at the time this laptop was designed/built to not have usb boot enabled by default. Maybe security related -or simply because usb booting was not the popular choice 6-7 years ago that it has since become.
