My laptop isn't displaying anything, but it is turning on according to the light. Here is a list of things I have tried:
Let it fully charge
Hold down the power button longer
Take out the battery (it wasn't bulging) and put it back in.
Take out the RAM (there was a blinking light on the caps lock key after I took it out, but Google says that blink sequence means faulty memory) and put it back in (the blinking went away once I put it back in)
Plugging an HDMI cable into it and the other end in a monitor (nothing displayed)
- Pressing caps lock to see if it turns on (the key does nothing)
Any other ideas? There is no CMOS battery, so I am not sure how I could try resetting BIOS. The motherboard is 0PAB.

Hi @SomeRandomUser1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Laptop 14 is not displaying anything on the screen, but the power light is on, there could be several potential causes for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the problem.
- Check the Display Brightness: Sometimes, the display brightness may be set to its lowest level, making it appear as if the screen is off. Try increasing the brightness using the function keys on your keyboard.
- Connect to an External Monitor: Connect your laptop to an external monitor using an HDMI cable or the appropriate video output method. If the external monitor displays an image, it suggests that the issue might be with your laptop's internal display.
- Check for Loose Cables: Make sure that all cables, including the power cable, display cable, and any external peripherals, are securely connected to your laptop.
- Try a Hard Reset: To perform a hard reset, disconnect the laptop from the power source, remove the battery if possible (for laptops with removable batteries), and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds. Then, reconnect the power source and try turning on the laptop again.
- Boot into Safe Mode: If the laptop appears to turn on but still doesn't display anything, it might be a software issue. Try booting into Safe Mode by repeatedly pressing the F8 key or another appropriate key during startup. Safe Mode loads only essential drivers and can help diagnose software-related problems.
- Check for BIOS/UEFI Issues: Sometimes, BIOS or UEFI settings can cause display problems. Access the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing the appropriate key (usually F2, F10, or Delete) during startup and check if any display-related settings need adjustment.
- Faulty Display or GPU: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there's a hardware problem with either the laptop's display or graphics processing unit (GPU). In this case, you may need to contact HP's customer support or a professional technician for further assistance.
- Update Graphics Drivers: If you manage to boot into Safe Mode or if an external monitor works, try updating your graphics drivers. Outdated or corrupted drivers can sometimes cause display problems.
- Perform a System Restore: If you suspect a recent software change or update caused the issue, you can try performing a system restore to a point when your laptop was working correctly.
- Hardware Diagnostic Tests: Some HP laptops come with built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify hardware issues. You can usually access these tools during startup by pressing a specific key, such as F2 or F12. Run a comprehensive hardware test to check for any component failures.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
