Hi @VGonzo

Forcing Shutdown on an HP ZBook

If your HP ZBook is unresponsive and won't wake up from sleep, you can force it to power off by following these steps:

  1. Force Shutdown:

    • Press and hold down the power button for about 10 to 15 seconds. This force shutdown should turn off the laptop, even if it appears to be "sleeping".
  2. Disconnect Power:

    • Once it shuts down, disconnect any power sources:
      • Unplug the AC adapter from the laptop.
      • If the battery is removable, carefully remove it.
  3. Drain Residual Power:

    • Press and hold the power button for another 15 seconds to discharge any residual power in the laptop.
  4. Reconnect Power and Restart:

    • Reinsert the battery (if it was removable) and plug the AC adapter back in.
    • Press the power button to start the laptop again.
  5. Check for Software Updates:

    • Once your ZBook is running, check for any software or firmware updates that might address issues with sleep or hibernation. You can use the HP Support Assistant for this purpose.
  6. Adjust Power Settings:

    • Go to "Control Panel" > "Power Options" and review your current settings.
    • Consider adjusting the "Sleep" and "Hibernate" settings to see if this resolves future issues.

Additional Steps

  • BIOS Update: Ensure the BIOS is up to date by visiting the HP Support website and downloading the latest version for your model.
  • Disable Fast Startup: Sometimes, disabling Fast Startup in Windows can prevent issues related to waking from sleep. This can be done under "Control Panel" > "Power Options" > "Choose what the power buttons do" > "Change settings that are currently unavailable" > uncheck "Turn on fast startup".

These steps should help resolve the immediate issue and prevent future occurrences
