Hi @Chrissy191,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
You don’t need to do a factory reset just to reset your PIN. Here’s what you can try.
Reset PIN from Lock Screen
- On the login screen, click "I forgot my PIN" under the PIN entry field.
- Follow the instructions—Windows should guide you through resetting the PIN using your Microsoft account.
- If nothing happens when you click “I forgot my PIN,” try restarting your laptop and attempting again.
Reset PIN via Microsoft Account
- Go to Microsoft’s password reset page from another device.
- Sign in to your Microsoft account.
- Change your account password (this won’t reset your PIN but ensures you have the right credentials).
- Restart your laptop and try logging in with the password instead of the PIN.
- After logging in, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and set up a new PIN.
Use Password Instead of PIN
- On the login screen, click “Sign-in options” below the PIN entry field.
- Select "Password" and enter your Microsoft or local account password.
- Once logged in, reset your PIN under Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > PIN (Windows Hello).
Reset via Safe Mode
If the above steps don’t work, boot into Safe Mode and remove the PIN:
- Hold Shift and click Restart from the Power menu on the login screen.
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After restarting, press 4 or F4 to enter Safe Mode.
- Sign in using your password.
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and remove the PIN.
- Restart normally and set up a new PIN.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
