Hi @Chrissy191,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

You don’t need to do a factory reset just to reset your PIN. Here’s what you can try.

Reset PIN from Lock Screen

  1. On the login screen, click "I forgot my PIN" under the PIN entry field.
  2. Follow the instructions—Windows should guide you through resetting the PIN using your Microsoft account.
  3. If nothing happens when you click “I forgot my PIN,” try restarting your laptop and attempting again.

Reset PIN via Microsoft Account

  1. Go to Microsoft’s password reset page from another device.
  2. Sign in to your Microsoft account.
  3. Change your account password (this won’t reset your PIN but ensures you have the right credentials).
  4. Restart your laptop and try logging in with the password instead of the PIN.
  5. After logging in, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and set up a new PIN.

Use Password Instead of PIN

  1. On the login screen, click “Sign-in options” below the PIN entry field.
  2. Select "Password" and enter your Microsoft or local account password.
  3. Once logged in, reset your PIN under Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > PIN (Windows Hello).

Reset via Safe Mode

If the above steps don’t work, boot into Safe Mode and remove the PIN:

  1. Hold Shift and click Restart from the Power menu on the login screen.
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  3. After restarting, press 4 or F4 to enter Safe Mode.
  4. Sign in using your password.
  5. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and remove the PIN.
  6. Restart normally and set up a new PIN.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
