Hi @CavalierChris04,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I'm sorry to hear that your laptop webcam isn't working properly—especially during an important meeting. Let's work through this together to get it fixed.
- Does the webcam display a black screen across all applications (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Camera app)?
- Have you recently updated your operating system or installed any new software before the issue started?
- Does your webcam appear in Device Manager, and is it showing any error symbols (e.g., yellow triangle or red cross)?
Let's try these steps.
Check Camera Privacy Settings:
- Press Windows + I to open Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
- Ensure the toggle for Camera access is turned on, and that the apps needing the camera (like Zoom or Camera) are allowed access.
Test in the Windows Camera App:
- Open the Camera app (search for it in the Start menu).
- If it shows a black screen, note any error messages or adjust the camera settings within the app.
Update or Reinstall the Webcam Driver:
- Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras, locate your webcam, right-click, and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- If this doesn’t help, uninstall the device by right-clicking on it and selecting Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and the driver should reinstall automatically.
Disable and Re-enable the Webcam:
- In Device Manager, right-click the webcam and select Disable device. Wait a few seconds, then re-enable it.
Check for Software Conflicts:
- Close all applications that might be using the camera (e.g., Skype, Zoom, Teams) to ensure no other app is blocking it. Restart your laptop and test the webcam with just one app.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it could be a hardware-related problem.
Keep me posted for further assistance
