Hi!
My notebook is new.
I am trying to boot up using a USB flash drive with bootable Clonezilla Live to create a disk backup of the New SSD drive with Windows 10 (in case of emergency, and soon with the configuration and app).
I have tested the bootable media USB in other older laptops and they boot up.
If I keep pressing Esc at startup I have these possibilities:
- Boot
- file Emi
What does is Emi file option!?
Can I use it in order to:
Sistem configuration > Secure Boot > DISABLED
Sistem configuration > Legacy Support > ENABLED
Or can I use F9 key!?
Otherwise the screenshot are these:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1mrQggEuJLU5UlXBOO3n8SlboNy0vI0HE
Ehm.... Now the notebook is started with win 10 and is asking for fill in (country, name, etc ...), how can I turn it off and back into the boot without filling all the fields, as with the turnon - shutdown key it goes into standby and I can not exclude the Battery! hehehe -_-'
Sorry for questions from dummies 🙂
and thank you for your time! 😉

The USB drive is showing up in both the UEFI and legacy boot list so the system should boot from it. Have you tried invoking esc + F9 and then pick the usb disk expressly as the boot source?
You know, Windows has the ability to make a backup with system image which can be used to restore an exact copy of your drive and it is incremental. You can back up to it every day and you will always have a live backup of your current system state. Clonezilla will give you a one-time image of the drive as it is today. Store it away for a year and use it to recover and you are missing a year of work.

Hi
So a new HP notebook, good choice.
You can install fully the Windows 10 system, and then try this....
AND/OR try making a repair W10 disk from Microsoft..
Then Booting from USB needs something like ESC key at power on, then for me it's F9; the boot options may look like this...
and re-sequence the devices to move USB to the top.
You may want to temporarily change to Legacy boot to re-sequence things and then back to Secure Boot and SAVE.
But the clonezilla is a good option that I have used, and no longer need as I made a DVD from Microsoft and then download drivers from HP as needed.
The Recovery Media Creation is likely to be an old version of Windows and will wipe the HDD when it is used. So regular use of clonezilla is an excellent idea.
If in doubt please ask.

Hi!
And thanks for the answers! 😉
I finally found the time today to try again with your advice.
By pressing F9 on startup, I tried "Boot from Efi File".
This was the result:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1lexVV0SKkMDebzbmSL_AdPLmAAXxWkL2
Failed to boot a USB bootable pen (already tested and successfully started on other PCs)
- o - o - o - o - o -
Instead, try to change the BIOS by pressing ESC at startup:
Sistem configuration> Secure Boot> DISABLED
Sistem configuration> Legacy Support> ENABLED
This was the result:

What should I do!?
Thank you!!! 🙂

Hi
Clonezilla will probably not boot as it is not a signed OS.
I have used a Live linux on a DVD/USB to access the Hard Disk, using one like Knoppix, Debian, openSuSE,Linux Mint or Lubuntu that are signed for Secure Boot and then try your party tricks.
EG: sudo apt install clonezill*
or just use the file manager.
NB: It is important that the Fast start up option is not on in Windows, as it sets a dirty bit in the partition table.
Clear the Checkbox.
More later after I boot into linux.
Now is later...
clint@HP-Lappy:~$ sudo apt install clonezill*
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Note, selecting 'clonezilla' for glob 'clonezill*'
The following additional packages will be installed:
ash dialog drbl gdisk ipcalc nilfs-tools partclone partimage pigz wakeonlan
Suggested packages:
cifs-utils udpcast sshfs
The following NEW packages will be installed
ash clonezilla dialog drbl gdisk ipcalc nilfs-tools partclone partimage pigz wakeonlan
0 to upgrade, 11 to newly install, 0 to remove and 62 not to upgrade.
Need to get 3,267 kB of archives.
After this operation, 15.4 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n
But I can select just the ones I want to install. Use File Manager and mount the drive/partition and copy it.
So you have lots of ways to make a repair disk.
MS Creator, Clonezilla, File Manager or even HP inbuilt.
If in doubt please ask.

To start with EFI is a partition on a data storage device that's used on drive adhering to Unified Extensible Firmware Interface. Even still they do not like each other when I work with them. UEFI will someday replace the BIOS until then we get a nasty hybrid to work with.
As for the authentication error I had a similar issue when working with VeraCrypt for encryption, I ended up disabling TPM in the BIOS. Also you might be trying to run the wrong boot file. (might not be, but could be)
Try a different Dir, you may find that there is more than one boot file.
(EDIT: typo correction)

I use clonezilla live without problems for years, I would like to use it now too on this notebook.
Clonezilla has the advantage of running on any machine, regardless of the OS (and whether it still works or not).
in 30 minutes it makes the image of the HD partition with the operating system, in 30 min it restores the image with OS, software, customizations, etc ...
Ok that even Win 10 does something similar, but I have passed without problems from Win10 to Win 7 when I needed it.
Ok that there is the app of HP, but it is linked to the SO ... (it would be more useful for me if it were bootable live when the PC is turn on.)
His only problem is that it is so fast that sometimes they give error messages related to the overheating of the processors. O_o'
I'm looking at other free solutions like:
- dd of linux
- Win 32 disk imager
- redo backup and recovery
- NO Macrium Reflect! Gave me prolems.
- if you have advice write please..... 😉
Get back to us (at the HP Omen notebook)
in the end I chose ESC (cancel changes) yesterday, however, the HP Notebook seemed ruined, did not turn on anymore.
This morning I tried to turn it on by holding ESC but did not give signs of life.
I tried to switch it on normally and resurrected, starting normally WIN 10. ^^
What should I do!?
Why can't see a USB pen with cloonezilla live, already working on other PCs !?
Thank you!

Hi
clonezilla will not work, you need to have a LEGACY boot option.
Read up on how to clear the "DIRTY BIT" as W10 does not normally shut down cleanly, and Gparted wont mount the W10 partition.
UEFI / Secure Boot needs a signed OS and clonezilla is not.
Legacy boot will boot clonezilla, I have done it on this machine.
So does your 'BIOS' have the option?
You are making mountains out of molehills.
If the HDD fails then just use Microsofts Creator tool and make a new Win 10, add on HP drivers and that is that.
Install your backups from the day before and you are up and running.
Cloning an out of date HDD, and moving it to a new hdd and then have MS update spend 2+ hours installing the creator updates is pointless, just because clonezilla works in 30 minutes.

Turn the computer over, look for a battery compartment door to determine if your computer has a removable battery or not.
If you see a battery compartment door, your computer has a removable battery. Remove the battery.
If you do not see battery compartment door, your computer does not have a removable battery.
This is valid for most notebooks; Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to complete the reset.
Re-insert any battery you removed.
ENVY 17 2D/3D and ENVY 15-3000 series:
Press and hold the power and the Beats buttons for 8 to 10 seconds;
Folio 13: Press and hold the power button for 8 to 10 seconds;
ENVY 14 SPECTRE: Press and hold the power and the Mute buttons (on the right side of the palm rest) for 8 to 10 seconds.
EliteBook Folio 1040 G1/G2:
Press and hold the power and the Mute buttons at the same time for 15 seconds or until the computer restarts.
BIOS recovery for most Laptops, as a last resort…
WinKey + B + PWR for 1 second.
OR
WinKey + V + PWR for 1 second.

Hi
Step 1
Install fully and completely Windows 10.
Clear the Turn on Fast startup check box.
Shut down.
Step 2
Use Legacy boot and try clonezilla.
Step 3
Whether it works or fails, boot Windows 10, goto HP site for the drivers.
Download all the drivers. Store them safely somewhere.
GoTo Microsoft and make a W10 with the creators tool.
Step 4
Ignore step 2.
BUY as many new HDD's as you like and with the above Creator's tool W10 install Windows 10, add in the drivers.
Phone Microsoft and tell them about the hard ware change if the licence/activation isn't automatic.
You dont need clonezilla at all.
