I'm using my laptop connected to an external monitor, so I keep my laptop lid closed. All works fine. But, in the night, I switch off the AC power, and the machine enters to the hibernate mode (after prolonged sleep, to save the battery). Then the next day I can't wake up the laptop without opening the lid. This is inconvenient with my physical setup. I was looking for "Wake-on-AC" option in the BIOS so that the laptop will be switched on automatically when I switch on the AC power. But I couldn't find neither "Advanced" or "Power management" tabs/options there.
I tried so hard to search for this. I saw in some threads that HP has locked those advanced settings for consumer laptops. But, can someone please help me to unlock advanced settings or power management options in the BIOS? What I want is just to enable "Wake-on-AC" for my laptop. I'm running on BIOS F.15 Rev. A. (latest as of now)
Thanks in advance.

Hi @Sennen7,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Unfortunately, HP consumer laptops, including the HP Envy 15-EP0098NR, typically have BIOS settings locked down, and the "Wake-on-AC" feature is not available by default in these models. Here are some alternative approaches you can try to address your requirement.
Use a USB or External Keyboard/Mouse to Wake
If your laptop supports Wake on USB, you can wake the laptop using a connected USB keyboard or mouse:
- Open the Device Manager on your laptop.
- Locate your USB devices under Keyboards or Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on your USB input device and select Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab and check Allow this device to wake the computer.
- Ensure that USB Wake Support is enabled in your BIOS (if available).
Enable Wake Timers
If your laptop supports scheduled wake-ups, you can use Windows to wake your laptop at a specific time:
- Open Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click Change plan settings for your active power plan.
- Select Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Sleep > Allow wake timers, and set it to Enable for both On battery and Plugged in.
Prevent Hibernate Mode
To avoid the need for wake-up entirely, you could configure your laptop not to enter hibernate mode when on AC power:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click Change plan settings for your active power plan.
- Select Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Sleep > Hibernate after, and set it to Never for Plugged in.
Alternatively, you could use Sleep mode instead of Hibernate, which allows faster wake-up:
- Expand Sleep > Allow hybrid sleep, and disable it for both On battery and Plugged in.
Check for Workarounds in BIOS Updates
HP occasionally releases BIOS updates that enable new features. While there are no current indications of "Wake-on-AC" being included in updates for your model, keep an eye on HP's support page for your laptop for any new BIOS revisions.
While enabling "Wake-on-AC" directly isn't possible without advanced BIOS modifications, using wake on USB, configuring sleep/hibernate settings, or using scheduled wake timers should provide a practical workaround.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
