Hi @Payton11,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy laptop is powering on but showing a black screen, try these troubleshooting steps.

Check the Display Brightness: Sometimes the display brightness may be turned all the way down. Try adjusting it using the keyboard's brightness keys (usually marked with a sun icon).

External Monitor Check: Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV to check if it's a display issue. If the external monitor works, the issue is likely with the laptop’s screen.

Force a Hard Reset:

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Unplug the power cord and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Hold down the power button for 15-30 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the power, but leave the battery out (if removable) and try turning it on again.

Try a Key Command:

  • On some HP laptops, pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del or Ctrl + Shift + Esc can bring up the task manager, which might help identify if the system is running in the background.

Re-seat the RAM: Loose RAM can cause a black screen. If you're comfortable doing so, power off the laptop, open the back panel, and re-seat the RAM sticks.

BIOS Recovery:

  • Disconnect all devices from your laptop.
  • Press and hold the Windows + B keys together, then press the power button while holding the keys.
  • Keep holding the keys until you hear beeping or the BIOS recovery screen appears.

Check for Flickering: If the screen is flickering but you can make out images, this could indicate a problem with the screen or its connection.

Faulty Hardware: If none of these steps work, the issue might be hardware-related, such as a faulty screen, backlight, or GPU.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
