I have been dealing with a very stubborn laptop recently.  It was packaged as new, but was clearly used and not properly reset.  Fortunately, everything is in working order....except it came with a BIOS admin password that I cannot crack.  I want to modify boot order (to configure dual-boot with Linux) but I cannot because the BIOS is locked.  I tried:

1) Using "default" passwords given by the stop code when you enter wrong password 3 times

2) Updating the BIOS (twice)

3) HP Recovery tools

All to no gain

At this point, I want to just flash the CMOS.  The problem is, I can't find any indication of where the CMOS is, or if there is any particular procedure to remove the CMOS battery.

For clarification, the system works fine.  Windows boots with no problems, and I can use administrator controls fine.  All programs function normally.

Is there any way to forcibly reset all BIOS/UEFI settings to factory default without flashing the CMOS?  If not, what is the best procedure for accessing the battery? (I searched through the service manual and found no hints)

-Any help would be appreciated, PB

If you bought what you believe to be a new PC and got a USED one instead, you need to return it to where you bought it and demand a replacement!

Sorry, but we are not permitted to assist you with bypassing or cracking the BIOS password.  You would do better to get a new PC that does NOT have the password set.
