@Sportsmedicpz, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having trouble unlocking your HP laptop after pressing both the lock and power buttons. Let's walk through a few steps to help you regain access:
Perform a Hard Reset
This helps clear any temporary system glitches.
- Turn off the laptop completely.
- Unplug the power adapter.
- If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
- Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery (if removed) and power adapter.
- Press the Power button to turn the laptop back on.
Check for Lock Screen or BitLocker
If the laptop powers on but stays on a lock screen:
- Try pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete to bring up the login screen.
- If prompted for a BitLocker recovery key, you can retrieve it from your Microsoft account: Find your BitLocker recovery key - Microsoft Support
Boot into Safe Mode (if still stuck)
If the system is unresponsive:
- Power off the laptop.
- Turn it on and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly until the Recovery menu appears.
- Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Press 4 to boot into Safe Mode.
From Safe Mode, you can troubleshoot login issues or perform a system restore.
