Elitebook 850

I just got a Elitebook 850 from my work, that won't start. When i press the power button, the keyboard backlighting and powerlight comes on. Then, after about 5 seconds, the keyboard backlight goes out, and the computer seems to restart.

Having done this 3 times, the CPU fan starts blowing at full force for 1-2 minutes, and then the computer seemingly restarts again, with only the power light on, and nothing else.

Through all this, the screen never turns on, it's pitch black. Also, no beeps are heard, and the Caps/scroll lights do not come on.

My guess would be motherboard failure, but having googled this extenseivly i haven't found any info on this specific error/problem.

So now i turn to the collective HP mad scientist megabrain for help! 🙂

Did you tried recovering the bios using USB?
If yes then visit nearest HP service center and ask for warranty claim.

If no then give a last chance or claim the warranty.

Thank you for your compliment for forum members but 90% of forum members does not work for HP (I too)

You are correct this may be a hardware issue, but follow these basic recovery tips and check if you have better luck this time 🙂

Try hard reset of your notebook.
Remove the battery and press and hold power button for 5 seconds. And press power button again.
Now insert battery and reboot your notebook.

Try updating the bios (this may fix the corrupt bios)
Download bios for your notebook on another pc and create bios recovery USB.

Check if bios is accessible
Keep pressing f10 as soon as you press power button and reset bios settings using f9 key.(if bios is accessible)

Plug in the USB and start your PC.
Your pc may beep and reboot several times during this process.
Now check if your problem is fixed.

If this doesn't help you then you need HP support for hardware upgrade.

Hello,

I did try the hardware reset, that does not help i'm afraid. Also, since the laptop will not boot, i cannot access BIOS or any other functions 😕

And while 90% may not work for HP, at least i can get a response, which is worth a lot to me 🙂

Sooo.... any more suggestions for what to do, or is it just a question of warranty claim for this computer?
