HP Envy 13 NOTEBOOK d109tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am very annoyed at this point and me posting on here has become my last option after researching as much as I could find.

I have a HP ENVY 13 (d109tu), that has very unpredictable freezes. There has been no pattern in which a freeze happens and the frequency of time between each freeze has also varied. When the freeze happens my entire computer becomes locked up, and the mouse and keyboard (even external devices) have no effect. All I can do is stare at a frozen state of my computer indefinitely or hard reset my device by holding the power button. In terms of how often the freezes happen that can happen very frequently to the point where I am only able to use the device for 20 minutes to an 1 hour before expecting a freeze. The freezes can randomly just stop happening for periods of time (a week or even a month) before coming out of nowhere.

I have researched almost everything I could find online and nothing has seemed to work or give me any indication for what the problem could be.

Things I have tried to stop the freezing...

I first started off with the main common things that could cause my computer to freeze. I attempted to fix the problem without having to reset the computer.

  • I disabled pretty much all software that wasn’t windows related to prevent too many apps from starting up
  • I tried updating all my drivers specifically the graphics, display, audio and storage drivers.
  • Many articles suggested virtual memory which I saw no change and the freezing persisted
  • I made sure all my bios settings were default
  • I then ran CMD and ran the commands “sfc /scannow”, “CHKDSK” and my outcome was that my laptop had no errors etc.
  • I also tried the same thing above by right clicking on my windows drive and scanning for errors, still nothing.
  • I tried scanning my computer using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool, and ran the extensive 2 hour test with everything passed on the first try.

  • I also tried to change all my settings in the windows power options in the control panel. I disabled fast boot, set my turn of disk to never and made sure that my laptop was set to not hibernate as articles said this was bad for my ssd.

With the freezing still happening I reset my PC using windows through settings and removed everything from my computer. The freezing still kept on happening. So I tried resetting windows using a usb and the windows media creation tool, instead to completely wipe my ssd fresh. Still my computer freezes. I have tried viewing event viewer for any errors and the only error I can see is when I hard reset the device.

The last thing I could think of trying was to trial my ssd. I did this by installing windows on an external harddrive to see if by removing my ssd from the equation, if my computer would still continue to freeze.

And here I am looking for others help as a last resort as I have no idea on what to do now. Please, I feel like there's no hope I’ve tried so much and nothing has changed. And I've refused to post on a forum for so long knowing that I will probably be told to just go through solutions I’ve already tried with no luck.
