Hello

My HP Elitebook 840 G8 doesn't power on, I have tried all the methods including Hard reset windows + B, windows - V , removing all the external accessories etc , but once the laptop is on it works perfectly fine no issues at all , the only problem is powering on . please suggest what could be the problem,

If the laptop works perfectly once it is on, but refuses to power on randomly, this is usually a power controller issue on the EliteBook 840 G8. The board gets stuck and does not respond to the power button until it is drained.

Try this:

  1. Disconnect the charger

  2. Remove the bottom cover

  3. Disconnect the internal battery

  4. Hold the power button for 20 to 30 seconds

  5. Reconnect the battery

  6. Plug the charger back in and try powering it on

If the laptop still has trouble powering on, check these:

  • Make sure the battery cable is fully seated

  • Try a different charger

  • Check if the power button feels loose or inconsistent

  • If the laptop only turns on sometimes, the power button board or the system board may be failing

This issue is common on the 840 G8 and the reset above usually fixes it.
