My HP LAPTOP has recently been installed a windows 10 pro, the windows 10 I had before installing crushed . Now it has been off for a week .it just showed me that your laptop run into a problem and it's been off like that . I tried to open it today and it has just showed me a HP BIOS UPDATE initializing window. When I installed windows 10 pro it could sometimes just stop responding and being stuck like that until I turn it off . How can this problem be solved

@ZE231, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Got it — thanks for explaining everything clearly.

Here’s How You Can Solve This Step-by-Step:

Let the HP BIOS Update Finish

  • If the "HP BIOS Update initializing" screen shows up, DO NOT TURN OFF the laptop.
  • Wait patiently — it may take 5–30 minutes.
  • If it completes successfully, your laptop will reboot automatically.

Reset BIOS Settings (if it reboots)

Once the laptop turns back on:

  • Immediately press ESC repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
  • Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Inside BIOS, look for Restore Defaults (usually under the Exit or Main tab).
  • Save changes and exit.

This will ensure no wrong BIOS setting is causing the freezing.

Check Hard Drive and Memory Health

After resetting BIOS:

  • Power on the laptop again.
  • Immediately press ESC, then F2 to open HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run:
    • System Test > Fast Test
    • Memory Test (RAM)
    • Hard Drive Test (SSD/HDD)

If any test fails, that part will need to be repaired or replaced.

Reinstall Windows 10 (Clean Installation)

If BIOS and hardware are okay, but it still keeps freezing, it’s best to wipe the hard drive completely and do a clean reinstall of Windows 10:

  • Create a bootable USB using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
  • Boot from USB.
  • When installing, choose "Custom Install" and delete all partitions (this fully cleans the drive).
  • Then install Windows 10 fresh.

Important: Do not install drivers manually at first. Let Windows install its own basic drivers. Then update only from Windows Update and HP Support Assistant.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
