@Sonia64, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "CRITICAL PROCESS DIED" error typically indicates that a critical system process has failed to run properly. Since this occurred after a new drive was installed, it could be related to system file corruption, driver issues, or even a faulty installation of Windows.

Let’s go through a few steps to help resolve this:

Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

  1. Power off your laptop.
  2. Power it on and as soon as the HP logo appears, press the F11 key repeatedly until you see the Choose an option screen.
  3. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

If Startup Repair doesn’t fix the issue, proceed to the next step.

System File Check (SFC) and DISM (if accessible)

If you can boot into Safe Mode or Command Prompt via WinRE:

  1. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  2. In the Command Prompt window, type the following commands one by one:

   sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

These commands will scan and repair corrupted system files.

Perform a System Reset (if issue persists)

If the above steps don’t work, you may need to reset Windows:

  1. Boot into WinRE (F11 at startup).
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  3. Choose Keep my files (if you want to retain personal data) or Remove everything for a clean reset.

If the issue persists, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will assist you further.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - South Africa | HP® Support

(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
