HP presario CQ62
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an oldish HP presario CQ62 which I can't get to turn on. The power button flashes only once but doesn't turn on or boot or anything, no fan activity either. Occasionally the power button lights up for couple of seconds, the screen is on and then gone again. I have taken out the battery and drained static, reinserted the battery and everything but still doesn't turn on. The laptop doesn't turn on on ac power either. Please help. I'm clueless as to whether it's a battery issue or is cooling fan issue.

If you CAN, to find out the problem, you would need to run hardware diagnostics by pressing the Esc key repeatedly and then, when the HP Startup Menu appears, select Diagnostics (usually F2) and let it run.

If you can NOT do that, or if that does not work, then there is NOTHING more you can do by yourself -- and there is NOTHING we can do because we have no way of accessing your PC from here to run diagnostics or repair hardware.

You will need to have the PC physically examined in a service facility by folks that can run their own diagnostics to determine what is wrong with it.

Since your PC is no longer under warranty, then it will cost you up front to have HP examine your PC. If you want to do that, you will have to contact an HP Repair or Service Center to see if they can examine the PC to determine the cause(s) of the problems, if it can be repaired, and an estimate of the repair costs.

Thanks for the advice. I just want to confirm if the laptop should turn on on ac power bcs mine doesn't. Could it be an adapter problem?

I would have no way of knowing.  Some laptops won't turn on with the A/X adapter if the battery is dead or removed.  So, about all you can do is use another charger to see if the laptop turns on -- but you still have the issue that the battery might be dead, and if that is the case, you would have to replace that so see if the laptop then turns on.
