Hi @Khangmachine89

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If you're unable to enter your PIN and have already tried reset and troubleshoot options, you can bypass the PIN by signing in with your Microsoft account password or booting into Safe Mode to reset the PIN.

This issue often appears after a Windows update or security change, and I understand how frustrating it is when your usual login method suddenly stops working.

Let’s walk through a few recovery options that can help you regain access without losing data.

Steps to Fix “Can’t Enter PIN” on Windows Laptop

1. Try Signing in with Your Microsoft Account Password

If your PIN isn’t working, Windows usually offers a fallback:

  • On the login screen, click “Sign-in options”
  • Select the key icon to switch to password login
  • Enter your Microsoft account password

If you don’t see this option, try restarting the laptop and checking again.

2. Reset PIN via Safe Mode

If the PIN system is corrupted, Safe Mode can help bypass it.

  • Power off your laptop completely.
  • Turn it on and immediately press F11 repeatedly to enter Recovery Environment.
  • Go to Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart
  • Choose Safe Mode with Networking
  • Once in Safe Mode:
    • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options
    • Remove the current PIN and set a new one

3. Use Windows Recovery to Reset PIN

If Safe Mode doesn’t work, use the recovery environment:

  • Power on and press F11 or Shift + Restart to enter recovery
  • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt
  • Type the following to enable built-in admin account:net user administrator /active:yes
  • Restart and log in as Administrator
  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and reset your PIN

4. Use Microsoft Account Recovery

If you’re locked out entirely:

Let me know if your laptop is using a local account instead of a Microsoft account, or if you’re unable to access Safe Mode—I’ll guide you through alternate recovery options.
