Hi @Frekkas,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop shutting down randomly!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check for Overheating
- Make sure the vents aren’t blocked and clean out any dust.
- Use HP Command Center to monitor temperatures.
- Try using the laptop on a hard, flat surface for better airflow.
Disable Fast Startup
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup and Save changes.
Run Windows Power Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > System > Power & battery > Troubleshoot.
Check Event Viewer for Errors
- Press Win + X, select Event Viewer.
- Look under Windows Logs > System for critical errors before shutdowns.
Try a Clean Boot
- Type msconfig in the Run dialog (Win + R) and go to the Services tab.
- Check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
- Restart and see if the issue persists.
Reset BIOS Settings
- Restart and press F10 to enter BIOS.
- Select Restore Defaults and save changes.
If it still shuts down, it may be a hardware issue (battery, motherboard, or power supply). Let me know if any of these step's help! 😊

Hi @Frekkas,
Yes, if your HP Envy x360 goes into hibernation, Chrome and all other running apps will close completely because hibernation saves the system state to disk and then powers off the PC. When you turn it back on, it restores the previous session, but apps like Chrome won’t stay active in the background like they do in sleep mode.

Thank you for the response.
Check Power & Sleep Settings
- Go to:
- Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen & sleep
- Ensure hibernation is set to the correct time.
- Click Advanced power settings > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Sleep > Hibernate after, and make sure it's set to Never (or your desired time).
- Under Battery settings, set Critical battery action to Do nothing (if applicable).
Run Battery & Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart and press F2 repeatedly to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run a battery check and system test.
- If any test fails, it may indicate a hardware issue.
Let me know if it helps.
