I have a HP Notebook 15-bs199nl with Windows 10 (64 bit) installed. I made a BIOS update to version "F.75 Rev.A" as it was the latest avaiable on the hp drivers dashboard. The installation went fine but after the reboot the screen was completely black and now it doesn't boot Windows. Did I install the wrong BIOS version? I tried all the possible solutions on the support page (Win + b key with/without USB recovery support) but it still doesn't work.

Hi @khidot,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding BIOS Update!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It sounds like the BIOS update may have failed or installed an incompatible version, causing a black screen / no boot issue. Don't worry, there are still a few ways to try and recover your HP Notebook.
1. Perform a Hard Reset (BIOS Reset)
- Turn off the laptop completely.
- Disconnect all peripherals (USB drives, external monitors, etc.).
- Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 30-60 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
- Turn it back on and see if the display works.
2. Use HP BIOS Recovery (Win + B or Win + V)
- Turn off the laptop and plug in the charger.
- Press and hold Windows + B (or Windows + V).
- While holding the keys, press the Power button for 2-3 seconds, then release all keys.
- If the BIOS recovery screen appears, follow the instructions to reinstall the BIOS.
- If the laptop beeps but no display, wait 5-10 minutes to see if it starts the recovery process.
3. Use an External Monitor
- Connect an external monitor via HDMI or VGA.
- Turn on the laptop and see if it displays anything.
- If the screen appears, enter BIOS (F10 at startup) and check if the display settings are correct.

4. Create a USB BIOS Recovery Drive (If Nothing Else Works)
If the built-in BIOS recovery doesn’t work, try creating a USB recovery:
- On another working computer, download the correct BIOS file for your HP Notebook from the HP Support website.
- Download and run the HP BIOS Update tool.
- Create a BIOS recovery USB drive.
- Insert the USB into the non-working laptop and try Win + B again.
5. If Nothing Works, Try a CMOS Battery Reset
If the BIOS is corrupted, resetting the CMOS battery can help:
- Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
- Open the back cover and locate the CMOS battery (a small round silver battery).
- Remove it for 5 minutes, then put it back.
- Reassemble and try booting again.
If none of these steps work, the BIOS may be bricked.
