@Abi25P, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Power Reset (Hard Reset)

Sometimes, a hard reset can help to clear certain locks or glitches. Here’s how to perform a power reset:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the power cable and remove the battery (if it is removable).
  3. Hold the power button down for 30 seconds to drain any residual power from the system.
  4. Reconnect the battery and power cable.
  5. Power on the laptop and try to access the BIOS again.

If this does not clear the password prompt, continue with the next steps.

BIOS Reset via Jumper (CMOS Reset)

You may need to reset the BIOS settings by clearing the CMOS, which stores the password. This will involve opening up your laptop.

Important: Opening up your laptop will likely void any warranty, and you should proceed only if you're comfortable with hardware procedures.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off the laptop and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Open the laptop: You'll need to remove the back panel or keyboard to access the motherboard.
  3. Locate the CMOS battery: This is a small, round coin-cell battery on the motherboard (typically a CR2032 battery).
  4. Remove the CMOS battery for about 5-10 minutes. This will reset the BIOS and any password that’s been set.
  5. Reinsert the CMOS battery and close the laptop.
  6. Turn on the laptop and check if the password has been cleared.

If this still doesn't work, move on to the next options.

Use HP’s BIOS Recovery (If available)

HP laptops come with a recovery process to reset the BIOS password. To do this:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key simultaneously.
  3. While holding these keys, press the power button to turn on the laptop.
  4. Keep holding the Windows and B keys until you hear a beeping sound, or the BIOS recovery screen appears.
  5. From there, you can follow the on-screen instructions to reset the BIOS.

This method may only work if the laptop supports HP’s BIOS recovery feature.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
