Hi @Duane_M,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If you've forgotten the administrator password or the power-on password for your HP Stream notebook, there are a few steps you can try to regain access. Here’s a structured approach to help you:

For Windows Administrator Password Reset:

Use a Password Reset Disk:

  • If you have created a password reset disk previously, you can use it to reset your password.

Use Windows Account Recovery Options:

  • On the login screen, select "I forgot my password". Follow the prompts to reset the password using your Microsoft account credentials if the account is linked to one.

Safe Mode with Command Prompt:

  • Restart the notebook and repeatedly press the F8 key (or Shift + Restart from the login screen) to boot into Advanced Boot Options.
  • Select Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

Use a Password Reset Tool:

  • Use a third-party tool like Ophcrack or Offline NT Password & Registry Editor to reset the Windows password. These tools usually require a bootable USB drive.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @Duane_M ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

For BIOS or Power-On Password:

Enter BIOS Unlock Code:

  • Restart your laptop and try entering any random password three times.
  • After three failed attempts, you should see a system-disabled code or error.
  • Note down this code, and contact HP Support with this code. They can provide a master reset code based on the error displayed.

Clear CMOS (for Power-On Password):

  • Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power adapter and battery (if possible).
  • Open the back cover and look for the CMOS battery (a small, round silver battery).
  • Remove the CMOS battery for about 15-30 seconds, then reinsert it. This should reset the BIOS settings, including the power-on password.

Use BIOS Password Reset Jumper:

  • Some HP models have a password reset jumper on the motherboard. Check the HP Stream service manual for the location of this jumper, and follow the instructions to reset the BIOS password.

Note:

  • Resetting the BIOS or Windows password may cause loss of data or settings. Always back up your data regularly to avoid data loss.
  • Be cautious when using third-party tools and ensure you are using reputable sources to avoid potential security risks.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, I recommend you contact phone support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
