I wanted to upgrade my HP ZBook Firefly G11 PN: 98N41ET#UUZ with 32 GB (2x16 SO-Dimm) to 64 GB.
Unfortunately, the notebook refuses to start afterwards and the fan spins up. What could be the cause?

Hi @Kimi01n 

 

I think the problem is that it uses XMP profile memory, the BIOS of HP notebooks are not compatible with XMP memory, so when you put those memory,  the memory BUS looks for a JEDEC compatible with the notebook processor and does not find it.

I would speculate that the CL40 timing spec is way too fast.

 

There are no settings in your notebook's BIOS that you can change for the XMP profile and if the notebook can't automatically adjust to the faster memory timings, it either won't boot or will perform poorly if it does manage to boot up.

 

Always install memory that has the same timing spec as the ones HP installed, which if they are DDR5-5600 MHz memory, have a timing spec of CL46.

 

Something like this:
