@Durga_68, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since you're using an HP Pavilion Plus 16, and the issue is consistent across Terminal, Command Prompt, and PowerShell, it's likely system-level. Let’s try to narrow this down and fix it. Here are some possible causes and solutions:

Check for Antivirus or Security Software Conflicts

  • Sometimes, security software can delay the execution of command-line utilities.
  • Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus/firewall (not Windows Defender) and test.
  • If it speeds up, add exclusions for:
    • cmd.exe
    • powershell.exe
    • wt.exe (Windows Terminal)

Check Environment Variables

  • A broken or slow-to-resolve PATH entry can delay all terminal commands.
  • Open System PropertiesAdvancedEnvironment Variables.
  • Under System variables, inspect the PATH variable:
    • Look for network paths (\...) or non-existent locations.
    • Remove or fix them.

Disable PowerShell Prompt Customizations

  • If you’re using a custom profile or theme (like Oh-My-Posh or PSReadLine), it may slow things down.
  • Try running:

powershell -noprofile

  • If it runs faster, the issue is with your PowerShell profile. Check:

notepad $PROFILE

  • Temporarily rename the profile file to disable it and test again.

Check GPU Driver and Hardware Acceleration

  • Windows Terminal sometimes leverages GPU rendering.
  • Try disabling hardware acceleration:
    1. Open Windows Terminal.
    2. Go to Settings → Appearance → Use GPU acceleration and turn it off.
    3. Restart Terminal.
  • Also, update your graphics drivers via:
    • HP Support Assistant
    • Or directly via Intel / NVIDIA / AMD depending on your laptop configuration.

Run Performance Monitor / Resource Monitor

  • Check what happens during the lag:
    1. Open Task Manager → Performance.
    2. Watch for spikes in Disk, CPU, or Memory.
    3. Open Resource Monitor > Disk tab — check for high disk activity or slow response times.

Check for Windows Search or Auto-Completion Delays

  • Sometimes command-line auto-completion tries to resolve too much:
  • Try disabling command-line autocompletion:

Remove-Module PSReadLine

  • Or launch:

powershell -noprofile -command ""

Run System File Checker and DISM

  • Corrupted system files can cause sluggish behavior:

sfc /scannow

  • Then run:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

HP Software and BIOS Update

  • Since it’s an HP Pavilion Plus 16, make sure you:
    • Run HP Support Assistant for any driver/firmware updates.
    • Check if there's a BIOS update available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
