Hi  @Tesfaye3

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out.

I understand that when you tried to power on the laptop, the screen became dark and the system did not open as expected. I will be glad to help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you kindly share:

  • The exact HP laptop model number or product number - click here for steps
  • Do you see any power light, charging light, or keyboard backlight when you press the Power button?
  • Does the laptop show the HP logo before the screen goes dark, or does the screen remain black from the start?
  • Do you hear any fan noise or spinning sound from the laptop?

In the meantime, kindly try the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the charger and any connected USB devices or accessories.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for 15 to 20 seconds.
  3. Connect only the HP charger and try powering on the laptop again.
  4. If the power light turns on but the screen remains dark, use the key combination Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B. (link here for reference )This refreshes the display driver and may help if the issue is display related.
  5. If available, connect the laptop to an external monitor or TV using HDMI to check whether the display appears externally.
  6. While powering on the laptop, repeatedly tap the Esc key to see if the HP Startup Menu appears.

Additionally, HP provides a troubleshooting guide for black screen and startup-related issues: HP PCs - Computer starts but the screen remains blank (Windows): - click here

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
